For power rollers that transport materials at an angle, brakes are necessary to prevent them from reversing or slipping when stopped under load. For conveyors used to transport fabric core tapes, three types are commonly chosen: belt checkers, roller checkers, and block brakes. Let’s specifically discuss the effect of these three types of brakes on the power drum. 1. The belt-type check valve: When the conveyor is stopped and, under the effect of the load forces, the conveyor belt reverses direction, the braking belt is inserted between the drum and the conveyor belt; it is also wedged in place, thereby stopping the conveyor. Devices of this kind have a simple structure and low cost, making them very suitable for upward conveyors with an inclination of no more than 18°. The flaw is that when braking, it first reverses for a short distance, which causes blockage and overflow at the feeding point. II. When the power drum of the roller check valve is operating normally, it drives the rollers of the roller check valve via the drum shaft. Its star wheel rolls in a clockwise direction, with the rollers generally located at the widest part where the star wheel is cut. Brake operations like this require to be very smooth and secure, as well as to be available in a series, so that they can be selected accordingly based on the reducer. Moreover, the roller check valve is located within the driving drum, and its use is quite widespread. III. Problems with block brakes: The block brakes that are commonly used on power drums offer less stability during operation compared to check valves. In situations where check valves cannot be used, such as when transporting materials downward or horizontally, there are specific requirements regarding the timing of stopping. Therefore, when using a powered roller, brakes are definitely necessary. When selecting brakes, the user must consider where the powered roller will be used, in order to enable the brakes to function more effectively.
