Upon arriving at the natural gas station, some ball valves are labeled BDV while others are labeled BV – what is the difference? Does this D refer to the electric motor? For the vent pipelines, some are connected to GLV via ball valves, while others are connected to BDV via ball valves
Generally speaking, valve abbreviations mean the following: BDV – blow down valve, a valve used for drainage; BV – breather valve, a valve used for allowing air to pass through. As for GLV, which was mentioned by the original poster, I have never encountered it. However, it is recommended that the original poster take a look at the relevant drawings; there should be an explanation of the codes on the first page of those drawings
BDV (blow down valve) refers to an emergency vent valve; BD may simply mean ball valve (the exact meaning depends on the function of the valve in question), while GLV refers to a globe valve.
In other words, the BDV valve is named based on its function (for emergency venting); structurally, it is a ball valve equipped with an electric actuator, and can be integrated into an ESD system to serve the purpose of emergency venting. A BD valve is probably just a ball valve. The GLV valve we are referring to is called a low-temperature throttle stop valve; it should be a globe valve. I used to worry about the fact that it wasn’t a ball valve and wondered what it should be called; now I realize that the proper term for a ball valve is indeed \"ball valve\", while a globe valve is a type of stop valve whose valve seat resembles a sphere.
