Design of heat exchangers

I have just started working on heat exchanger design; I’m still getting to know heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and engineering thermodynamics. When it comes to heat exchanger design, what parameters are provided or required? In other words, where should I start?
This question is too broad; I don’t know how to answer it. What type of heat exchanger is it – shell and tube, plate, or spiral plate? . . . It is used for heat transfer calculations, mechanical calculations, corrosion issues, and so on. Everything is understood more deeply step by step. Take your time; start with the definition of the basic formulas, doing calculations by hand first and then using software. Single form, different forms, structural improvements and optimizations, and so on.
