In the hydrogenation unit, for our new project, we first plan to install a circulating hydrogen compressor. As for whether to add a unloader, the process engineers say it is necessary, but based on my past experience I think it isn’t required; using a return gas valve should be sufficient for control. However, there is no cooler after the outlet pipeline, and the return of gas will cause the temperature to rise. Since this isn’t specified in the current contract, adding such a device would incur costs. Is there any good alternative? The same applies to the new hydrogen compressor as well
Are your recycle hydrogen compressors reciprocating?
For installations of moderate scale, the compressors are usually reciprocating and do not come equipped with unloading devices; having unloading devices makes operation easier and saves labor. Adding it costs money; there are advantages and disadvantages to each option.
It’s generally not necessary to add anything; the issue can be resolved by using an outlet-back-inlet method, with just a cooler needed.
Consider the size of the device; if it’s too small, it’s not worth it. Adding connection lines for entrances and exits is sufficient, but it’s better to include them in larger devices – this not only reduces the difficulty of operation but also enhances safety, allowing for quicker response in case of any incidents with the device
