Do newly purchased pressure gauges and safety valves need to be calibrated? Which standard specifies this clearly? Thank you
Check the instructions; many of them are already calibrated at the time of manufacture. . . . . . . . . . .
The safety valve requires a set pressure, and this must be implemented. Pressure gauges also need to be inspected, but in reality, we don’t inspect most of them. Our factory has its own valve testing team and its own instrument testing team. All valves are first sent to the pressure testing team and then to the construction site, and all instruments are also first taken to the instrument testing team before being delivered to the construction site.
It must be calibrated by a qualified metrology department.
The manufacturer may conduct pressure testing at the time of delivery, but it is necessary to have it inspected at a local special equipment inspection agency, with inspections required once a year
Regular calibration: pressure gauges every six months, safety valves every year
Safety valves are calibrated by the special inspection agency, while pressure gauges are verified by the metrology department. Relevant provisions can be found in the Regulations on the Supervision of Special Equipment, the Metrology Law, and the Metrology Administration Regulations.
These should all come with certificates of conformity. If there are multiple pressure gauges, we conduct hydraulic tests on them, and safety valves must be inspected by specialized agencies
Factory calibration is not sufficient; a calibration by a qualified third party is required, that is, one recognized by the Special Inspection Institute
First, it is necessary to determine whether it belongs to a gas cylinder, a fixed-pressure vessel, a mobile-pressure vessel, or a simple pressure vessel; different regulations apply to each type, for example, no specific requirements apply to simple pressure vessels. Refer specifically to the safety technical supervision regulations of the TSG R series.
Generally speaking, manufacturers of pressure gauges and safety valves possess the qualifications for calibration; therefore, as long as the calibration date of a pressure gauge or safety valve falls within the specified calibration cycle, it is sufficient. TSG ZF001-2006 Regulations on Safety Technical Inspection of Safety Valves, B4.3 Pre-installation Inspection: “Before installing a safety valve, a visual inspection should be carried out, as well as tests for setting pressure and sealing; in cases where there are special requirements, other performance tests must also be conducted.” In accordance with the above requirements, and considering that the set pressure of safety valves may be compromised due to vibrations and other factors during transportation, all new safety valves in our company are required to have their set pressure adjusted again before they are put into use. The pressure gauge works the same way.
