Question 1: There used to be an empty corridor between Zone 2, the explosion-proof area, and the power distribution room, which served as a safety barrier and buffer. This corridor has now been removed without permission; in other words, Zone 2 and the power distribution room are now adjacent to each other, with an explosion-proof wall separating them. Is this approach feasible?
Question 2: Since Zone 2 and the power distribution room are now adjacent with an explosion-proof wall in between, how should wiring be arranged, and how can cables pass through that wall? Is it sufficient to seal the gaps with plaster? It would be best to provide guidelines with specific practices
The guidelines aren’t clear; I’ve done this before as well, but it requires approval from all three parties before it can be done, otherwise audits will cause problems
If it has to be installed in the main cable tray, there’s nothing that can be done about it; actually, it doesn’t have any impact, as the cables won’t get damaged for no reason and no sparks will be generated. In our area, the cable trays in the explosion-proof zone pass straight through the explosion-proof doorway before entering the power distribution room. Instead of using cable trays, it’s sufficient to use conduit and seal it with explosion-proof mud; for wall penetrations, the inside must be filled with explosion-proof mud and sealed at both ends with rubber gaskets for a neater appearance. Regarding the standards, it’s sufficient to have a meeting with the design institute, the supervisor, the client, and the contractor and sign off on them; I’m not very familiar with those standards. Of course, to facilitate audits, explosion-proof walls are installed, and no one will mind the extra cost of adding a buffer entrance hall. The answer is a bit messy. . . The power distribution room hasn’t been built this way; we have a control room that is located next to Area 2, and an explosion-proof wall has been constructed on the side facing the explosion-proof area. A sand-flushing explosion-proof tank is installed at the point where cables exit, and cable trays enter and exit the control room from here. For reference
