What are the causes of acid rain in our country?
Acid rain is primarily caused by nitrogen oxides (*acidic gases) and sulfur oxides (sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid) emitted into the atmosphere, which dissolve in water and lower the pH of rainwater.
The substance that causes acid rain is SO2, primarily from the burning of coal, as well as SO2 released during the combustion of other substances or in various production processes.
Acid rain is mainly caused by the artificial release of large amounts of acidic substances into the atmosphere. Acid rain in our country is mainly caused by the large-scale burning of coal with high sulfur content; in addition, exhaust gases emitted by various motor vehicles are also an important factor contributing to acid rain. Research shows that sulfur dioxide is the main substance responsible for acid rain. Sulfur dioxide undergoes photochemical reactions under sunlight, resulting in the formation of sulfuric acid mist. This mist continues to condense and grow in size as it is in the air, and when it comes into contact with water vapor, it forms acid rain.
It’s mainly caused by sulfur dioxide!
In our country’s energy structure, coal is the primary fuel source. The sulfur contained in coal is converted into sulfur dioxide as a result of its combustion, which then enters the atmosphere. In the smelting of gold, the combustion of metal sulfides also produces sulfur dioxide that enters the atmosphere; Sulfur dioxide dissolves in water to form sulfurous acid, which reacts with oxygen in the air, catalyzed by impurity particles, to produce sulfuric acid, thereby forming acid rain.
Acid rain is more common in the south and less common in the north. The soil properties in the north neutralize the acidity in rainwater
It is mainly caused by SO2. (Automobile exhaust, emissions from thermal power plants, etc.)
