In the electrolysis process, is there a difference between the anode solution and brackish water?
“In the electrolysis process, is there a difference between the anode solution and the brackish water? —— My view is that the anode solution includes both the brine fed into the cell and the brackish water coming out of it.
The fluid that comes out of the anode chamber of the electrolyzer is called the anode solution, which is a brackish water solution containing saturated chlorine gas. Brackish water refers to saltwater after vacuum dechlorination, containing a small amount of free chlorine. The difference between the two lies in the amount of chlorine in the saltwater. The brine fed into the electrolyzer is refined brine; our factory refers to it as ultra-pure brine.
So, is refined brine equivalent to secondary brine?
It can be considered that way, but there is a slight difference. The secondary brine entering the electrolyzer is divided into two streams: one is the diluted brine with pure water added, and the other is the brine without pure water added. The path without pure water supplies the brine used for electrolysis in the cell during normal operation, which includes a portion of the fresh brine that has returned from the cell. So, if the liquid that enters the tank during normal operation is called refined brine, then it is still somewhat different from secondary brine.
For chlorine plant electrolyzers: Anode solution: The anode solution entering the cell equals the brackish water leaving the cell plus the concentrated salt water (at a flow ratio of 1:1); Light brine generally consists only of the anode solution resulting from electrolysis in the electrolyzer; part of this solution is recycled back into the system, while another part is sent for dechlorination before being used to reconstitute the primary brine.
:The term “D anode solution” comes from the operation of diaphragm electrolyzers! In a diaphragm electrolyzer, after brine enters the electrolyzer, it is called the anode solution in the anode chamber; it passes through the diaphragm and enters the cathode chamber where it is referred to as the cathode solution. Once it exits the electrolyzer, it is called the electrolyte (note: there is no such thing as ‘light brine’ in diaphragm electrolyzers). After the electrolyte is evaporated, concentrated, and processed via centrifugation to extract salt, it becomes an alkaline solution! For brine, the salt-adding process yields what is known as crude brine; after filtration, the brine before the resin tower is called primary brine (referred to as purified brine in chlorine production processes), while the brine after the resin tower is called secondary brine (referred to as ultra-pure brine in chlorine production processes). The brine coming out of the electrolyzer, before it enters the water distribution tank, is called weak brine!
