Problems with ammonia vaporization and alkaline solutions

Why is the sample taken from the metering pump outlet for ammonia vaporization using a 40% NaOH solution black in color? There are blockages in the on-site wastewater coolers, as well as in the wastewater channels and pipes of the heat exchangers (it’s not tar; it’s white lump-shaped substances causing the blockages). Is this related to the alkaline solution turning black? I also want to ask, what will happen if 50% KOH is mixed into a 40% NaOH solution?
The liquid in the pipeline has flowed back; there might be a leak in the pipes of the primary cooler, possibly due to calcium ion scale
