When starting a gas well by throttling to reduce pressure, is it possible to use ethylene glycol as a co-solvent?

Methanol is used as a wellhead pressure balancing fluid when starting up a single well, and as a hydrate inhibitor in emergency release scenarios involving subsea facilities. However, since methanol is moderately toxic and we happen to have an ethylene glycol regeneration system, could ethylene glycol be used as a substitute for methanol? ?
Ethylene glycol seems to be quite a bit more expensive than methanol.
