The character “di” is a pictographic character; it consists of the character for “father” combined with the character for “many”. In ancient script, the character for “father” depicts a man holding a stone to strike something, while “many” refers to a large number of people. Literally, “di” denotes that fathers are usually adult men who do physical labor, using stone axes to work. It is said that parents are a child’s first teachers, and my father was no exception. Besides teaching me many skills needed to survive, he also taught me many principles for living. In my memory, my father was a man with great manual skills; he could make baskets, trays, pot lids, arrange beds, and build stoves. There was no household task he couldn’t handle. Our home was by the river, so my father had excellent swimming skills. Not only was he good at catching fish and shrimp, but he also saved many lives from the river. None of the above is what I want to focus on; what I want to say is that the only time he hit me was to make me understand that I shouldn’t destroy other people’s things casually. As long as I can remember, my father has never hit me. I only heard about that time when I was beaten from what the adults said. I was very young at the time; I went with the adults to grind flour, and when they weren’t looking, I damaged someone’s beloved pomegranate tree. My father beat me for that, so that I wouldn’t dare to destroy other people’s property again. This experience has benefited me for life.
I can’t even remember what I hit; how can I dare to do it again? Children should have a strong impression of it; they must remember it, right? If you can’t remember, then it’s small enough that hitting you is something that can be done easily, unless it’s meant as a show for others.

That’s right; when an adult beats a child, it is out of frustration at their failure to meet expectations. Only deep love can give rise to such strict discipline.
I guess if your dad doesn’t hit you, someone else will hit you even harder. ;P
The kindness of parents can never be fully repaid; I long for them so much
