Is a ball valve a ball valve, and is a glove valve a gate valve? Or a stop valve? Is a stop valve a type of valve that allows flow from low to high, with a valve disc? What is the English term for a stop valve?
A glove valve is essentially a stop valve. In fact, a ball valve can also be used as a valve to shut off a pipeline; in such cases, the ball valve functions as a stop valve, serving the same purpose. Whenever the stop valve is a ball valve, it is simply referred to as a ball valve; it can also be called a glove valve, but the most common term is still ball valve. Then, a globe valve usually has the inlet at a lower level and the outlet at a higher level. One advantage of this arrangement is that since the pressure or temperature is generally higher at the inlet side, when the globe valve is closed, the outlet side can be emptied, which makes it easier to replace the packing in the valve. If the inlet is at a higher level and the outlet at a lower level, it may be difficult to carry out repairs in case there is a leak in the packing area.
