Hello everyone! Our plant has installed a new condensate recovery system, which recovers condensate for use as make-up water in the circulating water system. The system has been built and all the flushing pipelines are in good condition. However, when the water is introduced into the circulating water system, laboratory tests show that the ammonia nitrogen level ranges from 0.7 to 3.5. Technical experts in the field of circulating water systems believe that such a high ammonia nitrogen level can cause corrosion of the water coolers. As a result, the condensed water that is recovered is now discharged directly onto the ground. It’s such a waste. I’d like to ask everyone for advice to see if there are any good solutions?
The question is, where does the ammonia nitrogen in the condensate water come from?
Ammonia is added to the boiler feed water to prevent corrosion. Circulating water copper heat exchangers have high requirements for ammonia control (to prevent copper corrosion).
The ion content of condensed water is extremely low, making it an ideal water for industrial processes; using it as makeup water for circulating water is somewhat wasteful. Using condensate water as make-up water for the circulating water system results in a low level of ions being introduced, which means that the ion concentration does not increase significantly during the concentration process of the system. If all the make-up water for the circulating water system is condensate water, then parameters such as hardness and alkalinity remain below the specified lower limits, placing the circulating water system under conditions that favor corrosion. Furthermore, the high ammonia nitrogen concentration in the condensate water may lead to copper corrosion. Therefore, using condensate water as a make-up water source for circulating water is not a good solution. The petrochemical system is usually integrated into the desalinated water system as boiler feedwater
Just use it directly; no problem. The impact of this amount of ammonia on the system is negligible. The ammonia content in this water is not high, and moreover it is only part of the total water supply, so the impact is limited; it is recommended to use it as is.
The evolved water unit is the most economical option for use as desalinated water after treatment. It can also be used as make-up water for circulating water.
