Three high-temperature thermocouples (platinum-rhodium 10-platinum) were installed in the catalyst bed of the company’s second-stage conversion furnace; all three were damaged during testing. The process conditions are a temperature of around 1300 degrees and a pressure of 3.5 Pa. The gases involved are mainly hydrogen, oxygen, water vapor, and methane. Does anyone know which manufacturer’s products can meet our requirements under such conditions?
For this temperature range, we have a waste liquid boiler in use that features S-type thermocouples; the better ones available in China are generally produced by Shanghai Automation Instrument Factory No. 3, Anhui Tiankang, and a few other companies.
The sulfur heating furnaces in our factory use thermocouples from Zibo, Shandong, with ceramic protective tubes; they perform well at high temperatures. Since they were last replaced, they have been in use for over a year now and there are no problems so far. The manufacturer claims that they can last three years, but I’m not sure if that’s true. Anyway, they are quite expensive – 30,000 per unit
It mainly depends on the material of the protective sleeve and its pressure resistance, etc. The absence of an S-shaped design isn’t a big issue; a K-type version can also be used, provided that the precision is slightly lower.

You might want to consider the two projects I’ve been working on recently: one is a coal-to-gas Endler furnace, and the other is a carbonization furnace for carbon fiber. You need to analyze it in this way: what do you mean by damage? Is it the casing that cracks and the wires break, or is the casing intact but the wires break? Such thermocouples are resistant to oxidation but not to reducing conditions; there should be no vibrations, and temperatures must not change suddenly. It’s necessary to know the length of your temperature measurement device. Generally, silicon carbide and corundum are used for the casings. The 3039 metal material can barely withstand temperatures of 1300 degrees, but I have the capability to use pure titanium metal casings that can handle temperatures up to 1800 degrees. What’s more, this product isn’t expensive either, as it is recyclable; only a fee for the casing and the processing cost of precious metals is charged each time
