I have a question for everyone – it’s something that’s quite basic for beginners, but I’ve never thought about it before. The heatx module of ASPEN uses the shortcut mode, with counterflow; what is the structure of the heat transfer area calculated in this mode?
It is simply calculated using the formula q=fsdeltaT; there is no complex structure involved. If a structure is present, then it is no longer a simple model
Agree with what was said above. It indeed has no structure; it is merely the result of heat balance and heat transfer rate calculations, and it has nothing to do with the structure of the heat exchanger
So without a specific structure. If the shortcut simulation mode is used, can it be assumed that the heat exchanger structure remains unchanged? Or in other words, in the shortcut mode of simulation, how is the heat transfer coefficient determined? I also have a question regarding the thermal exchanger modules in HYSYS: how is it possible to switch them to a simulation mode with a fixed heat transfer area and fixed structure? I briefly explored this today, and it seems that it’s done by using EDR.
Whether it changes depends on the area you specify after switching to simulation. In HYSYS, you can simply specify the UA using a simple endpoint.
I think it’s not quite correct for HYSYS to specify the UA directly. Simple endpoint is a bit on the side of design patterns. Moreover, in actual heat exchangers, when operating under varying conditions, U can change.
In simple mode, don’t overcomplicate things; if you need accuracy, use a rigorous EDR.
May I ask, when using strict calculation with EDR, does it mean selecting the strict calculation mode in the HEATX module and then importing the .EDR file in the EDR OPTION settings? I just imported this type of file, and when ASPEN was running, the heat exchanger stopped for a while; then it indicated that some problem had occurred, but it disappeared afterwards. Then when entering the EDR browsing interface, the original structure attributes are no longer there. I don’t know what’s going on; could you give me some advice?~
It depends on whether it’s in design or simulation mode. In simulation, what is imported is the structure of the heat exchanger, which is used to calculate the pressure drop
