In addition to compositional analysis, the alkylation feedstock also requires analysis for impurities such as methanol and dimethyl ether, as well as total sulfur and hydrogen sulfide. What other projects do the factories analyze as well?
Another important parameter for analysis is basic nitrogen; excessive levels of basic nitrogen lead to higher consumption of acid catalysts and the formation of compounds with the acid that are difficult to separate. Butadiene also must be strictly controlled, as it tends to polymerize into a gel-like substance under acidic conditions, thereby affecting the separation of the acid from the product.
