Simulation of the tower

For conventional distillation column simulations, how do fellow engineers handle the condenser and reboiler? For example, when I do the calculations, I want the condenser and reboiler to be modeled as two separate modules; should I then choose a tower module that represents no tower at all? There’s just something that doesn’t seem right. I hope experts can offer some guidance; thank you!

Yes, if you want to separate them, then it will be a light tower; but this makes convergence difficult. You’ll know once you try it

Actually, it’s the same; the tower module doesn’t come with a reboiler or a condenser, so one has to add them separately. For beginners, it’s very difficult to adjust the convergence settings

One can first choose a column with a reboiler; after the simulation converges, read the parameters of the reboiler and then conduct separate simulations – this should be faster

Why do we need to do this? Separate accounting for the condenser and reboiler is required; after the column converges, simply extract virtual flow streams.

Section 15.5.4 of Sun Lanyi’s book \"Process Simulation Training -- Aspen Hysys Tutorial\" presents two methods and explains in detail how to create custom columns by modifying pre-defined columns.
