Recently, the company carried out maintenance on a Shengli MCL-type compressor. By reviewing previous maintenance records, the total rotor play was found to be 0.48 mm. The experienced technicians on site said that this value was a bit high; for such units, the normal value is around 0.30 mm. Also, it seems you expressed yourself incorrectly. The total play of the rotor at 0.48 mm shouldn’t be that small; what is meant is probably the thrust clearance of the rotor, which is 0.48 mm. Is that how you describe it? Thus, what term is used to describe the front-to-back distance of the rotor impeller within the housing?

Please refer to the random technical documents; the deviation is within the acceptable range, and as long as there are no issues during operation, it is generally fine. If the increase in leakage volume occurred only after a recent maintenance, then the cause needs to be identified
There is no basis for such claims; you must find the detailed specifications in the manual of your device. If it is within the range, there’s no problem; if it exceeds the limit, adjustments can be made.

Each manufacturer, each unit, and each model has specific clearance requirements. Generally speaking, the total axial movement of the rotor within the cylinder is around 3 mm, while the clearance of the thrust bearings is 0.25 to 0.35 mm. For reference only!
What the original poster is referring to should be called the thrust clearance. The accuracy of this value depends on the size (weight) of the rotor as well as the manner in which thrust is applied; the higher the weight of the rotor, the greater the accuracy; The values obtained using tie rods or jacks are somewhat higher.
