The rich gas compressor is used for liquefying gas; the piston rod and the pressure element become disconnected and come free from the crosshead. There was previously a phenomenon of liquid slugging. What could be the reasons for this? If repairs are needed, is it necessary to conduct flaw detection on the crosshead, crankshaft, and connecting rods? How should it be repaired?
In the event of such an accident, it is necessary to conduct flaw detection on the connecting rod, crosshead – in particular the joint between the crosshead and the piston rod – the piston rod itself, the pressing element, the crosshead pin, and the piston rod (flaw detection may not be required if replacement is carried out). The bearing shells at both ends of the connecting rod, the crosshead pin, and the sliding surfaces should also be remeasured to ensure they are within the standard dimensions. The vertical position of the piston rod and its vibration levels must be checked and adjusted to meet the standard specifications. If possible, the seals of the piston rod should be replaced; after the piston rod breaks, vibration levels increase significantly, which can have a serious impact on the seals.
