The basic design documents indicate that the installation locations of the MTO quench tower bottom pump and the wash tower bottom pump are \"outside\". Is this incorrect? In the plants I’ve seen, these two pumps are located inside the pump house
It’s usually done indoors. Is your factory in the south or the north? How low does it get on normal cold days?
It feels better when installed outdoors, as it can lower the temperature of the quench water and washing water, thus solving the problem of high temperatures in these fluids. However, in outdoor environments the protection of these pumps may be weaker; they tend to get dirty and corroded easily. These pumps are imported ones, so they are quite expensive.
With such high flow rates, it shouldn’t have much impact on water temperature indoors or outdoors, right?
Is it considered indoor if it’s installed in a pump room? One MTO unit we have actually implemented was installed in a pump house
The pump data sheet includes an option for indoor or outdoor installation.
It should be indoors, as outdoor temperatures are low; the risk of freezing in winter is high.
