Due to the potential dangers of gaseous products, such as acetylene being flammable and explosive, oxygen igniting when in contact with fats, and inhaling a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen at concentrations over 90% causing severe **, there is a risk of suffocation from prolonged exposure to high concentrations of nitrous oxide gas. Inert gases can cause asphyxiation; falling gas cylinders can break the nozzle (valve), leading to the cylinder exploding. Therefore, there are some safety precautions to be aware of when using, transporting, and storing gases. After purchasing a gas cylinder, the user should inspect its paint color, inspection date, appearance, various labels, and safety devices to ensure that the gas contained within is correct and that the cylinder is in good condition before using it. Gas cylinders should be handled with care during transportation and handling; throwing, sliding, rolling, or subjecting them to severe impacts is strictly prohibited. Before use, a qualified and compatible pressure relief valve must be connected to the gas cylinder valve as required, and the connection hose should be cleaned. The pressure regulators used for cylinders of different gases are different. Gas cylinders must be stored upright, with measures taken to prevent them from tipping over. During welding, appropriate protective measures should be taken for the gas and electricity. Do not use damaged equipment, such as hoses, cables, and welding guns. Experimental analysis, welding, cryogenic storage, purging, and similar activities should not be carried out in enclosed spaces using inert gases such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide. In applications where backflow may occur, the equipment must be equipped with devices to prevent backflow, such as check valves, non-return valves, and flame arresters. All users of acetylene cylinders must install check valves and flame arrestors at the outlet of the regulator to prevent backflow and flashback, while check valves should also be installed at the outlet of the regulator on oxygen cylinders to prevent the backflow of acetylene gas. Before using acetylene, all pressure regulators, welding torches, hoses, and acetylene cylinders should be tested for leaks using soapy water to prevent acetylene from accumulating in the air. The distance between the acetylene cylinder and open flames must be at least 10 m (when working at heights, this distance refers to the parallel distance from the vertical ground surface). When using an acetylene cylinder, it must be kept upright, and measures must be taken to prevent it from tipping over; it is strictly prohibited to use it in a horizontal position. When using an acetylene cylinder, a special wrench should be used to open and close the cylinder valve, which must always remain attached to the valve. When temporarily stopping use, it is necessary to close the valve of the welding and cutting tool as well as the acetylene valve. It is strictly prohibited to adjust the pressure regulator or open/close the acetylene cylinder valve while holding a lit welding and cutting tool. If a leak is detected during the use of a gas cylinder, it must be addressed promptly; using it in the presence of a leak is strictly prohibited. When moving them, a dedicated trolley should be used. If acetylene cylinders and oxygen cylinders need to be transported on the same trolley, they must be separated by a non-combustible partition. Units and individuals using gas cylinders shall not repair or replace accessories such as cylinder valves and fusible plugs on their own, and welding repairs to in-use gas cylinders are strictly prohibited. The gas in the cylinder must not be exhausted; at least 0.05 Mpa of pressure must remain. For liquefied gas cylinders, at least 0.5–1.0% of the specified filling volume of gas must remain. Gas cylinders in which the gases inside come into contact with each other and can cause combustion, explosion, or the generation of toxic substances must not be transported together, such as hydrogen and oxygen cylinders, acetylene and oxygen cylinders, etc. Acetylene cylinders must not be stored in the same room as oxygen cylinders, chlorine cylinders, or flammable materials. The gas cylinder storage area should be dry and well-ventilated. Open flames and other heat sources are strictly prohibited; gas cylinders containing flammable gases or oxygen cylinders must not be exposed to direct sunlight. Smoking is also forbidden in the vicinity of these cylinders. Gas cylinders must not come into contact with sparks, flames, hot air, or electrical circuits. Cylinders should be covered with caps when not in use. Do not remove the cap from the acetylene cylinder when in use. The design of Dewar tanks allows them to withstand normal industrial transportation only; if they are subjected to severe vibrations, impacts, or tipping, they can be damaged or become unusable. When storing, transporting, and using cryostats, they must not be placed on their side; they should always remain in an upright position. Liquefied gases have extremely low temperatures, which can easily cause frostbite.
