As the title suggests: Is the maximum vibration level of a centrifugal fan mounted on a frame higher than when it is installed on the ground? We have a centrifugal fan here whose vibration level is around 5.0 mm/s, which is slightly above the limits specified by petrochemical industry standards
Of course, the amplitude of the ground concrete foundation is definitely smaller than that of the frame. This involves the issue of frame stiffness; if the deviation is not severe, there’s no need to worry about it
Appropriate adjustments can be made depending on the circumstances, but 5 mm/S is considered high even for frames.
It is related to the type and strength of the beam; the maximum vibration level of our previous centrifugal fans reached 9, while that of the frame was around 9.5. Generally, the foundation for fans should be of concrete or epoxy resin construction; frame structures are not recommended!
It seems there are no similar provisions in ISO 10816. Vibration itself is an indicator that measures the potential extent of the harm caused by equipment defects to the mechanical properties of the equipment. Moreover, normal vibrations are measured on the equipment itself, rather than by placing something on the ground to measure the vibration of the equipment; therefore, if the vibration level is high, it certainly poses a greater risk to the equipment.
Standards cannot cover all situations and are only for reference. If the vibration of this fan remains high but steady, then no action is needed; instead, the standard value for this equipment can be increased, that is, set to a factory-specific standard. If one adheres strictly to certain standards, some corrective actions can be very costly and not economical.
