Electric screw air compressors are designed for indoor use conditions, where buildings generally have lightning protection measures in place. If an electric screw air compressor is installed outdoors or used in the field, attention should be paid to lightning protection. There are two ways in which air compressors can be damaged by lightning strikes: First, the air compressor is struck by lightning directly. II. The sudden high voltage caused by lightning strikes on the power transmission lines enters the electrical system of the air compressor. 1. To prevent the air compressor from being directly struck by lightning in the field, users can create their own lightning rods. The structure of such a lightning rod is very simple: one end of a metal pipe is buried 1–2 meters underground, while the other end is pointed and placed at a height of more than 2 meters above the top of the air compressor. The air compressor should be located within 7 meters of the lightning rod. When there is lightning, people should not approach or touch the lightning rod. 3. Reliable grounding of the air compressor at the site of use is also a necessary measure to effectively prevent damage caused by lightning strikes. 4. Summary: The three-phase power lightning protection box, the self-made lightning rod, and the air compressor itself must all be reliably grounded during installation; generally, the resistance between the ground wires should not exceed 10 ohms. The power supply must be cut off when installing the lightning protection box; operating on it while it is still powered is strictly prohibited. The grounding wire shall be multi-strand copper wire of 25 mm² or less. The lightning protection box should be regularly checked to ensure that its connections are not loose.
