I encountered a problem at the site today: a magnetic level gauge with dual-color indicators showed a liquid level of 245 mm, but the DCS displayed 273 mm. The current was 18.4 mA, which matches the level shown on the DCS. The range of this gauge is from 0 to 300 mm. Since I don’t know the actual liquid level in the tank, there are knobs for setting the upper and lower limits for the level reading. I need to decide whether to remove the level gauge to check for any blockages or to adjust the upper and lower limits. I’m not sure what the solution should be. I’ve been away from the instrumentation role for a year, and now that I’m back, I feel quite unfamiliar with it
First of all, this site does not match the DCS. It definitely needs to be calibrated. Then check if the liquid level moves; if it does, there’s no blockage and no need to disassemble it. It gets stuck if it doesn’t move; remove it to clear the blockage.
What are the two potentiometers on the back cover dial for? Do they serve to change the resistance of the internal circuits?
The potentiometer does not need to be adjusted; it is pre-set at the time of manufacture, with the zero position corresponding to 4mA and the highest position corresponding to 20mA
First, close the stop valves on the two connecting pipes, then open the drain valve of the level gauge to check the level reading. Once the medium in the level gauge conduit has been drained, verify whether the on-site ball indicator and the DCS indication are both at zero
Level gauge, drain it, and you’ll know. With magnetic flip plates and remote transmission, it is possible that the zero positions are not at the same level. It’s also possible that the magnetic flip plate didn’t reverse due to insufficient magnetism.
Place the magnet outside and move it up and down quickly a few times to see what the reading is !
