A new carbon disulfide production unit has been installed, and it is necessary to remove rust from the carbon steel equipment used in it in order to meet the quality requirements for the initial products. Specifically, it is required that the protective film formed after passivation or pre-coating of carbon steel equipment should remain intact for a long time and not be corroded by the materials in contact with it; the main materials involved are carbon disulfide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide (anhydrous), and liquid sulfur. The equipment that requires treatment includes 6 storage tanks and 5 storage vessels; other devices can also be considered for treatment in the future if possible. I would like to know: when applying an anti-corrosion coating to carbon steel, what type of corrosion is it mainly intended to prevent? If the material is exposed to liquid flows and acidic gases, carbon steel is sufficient.
Its main purpose is not to prevent corrosion of the materials, but to ensure that pure product is obtained right from the start of operation. For example, if the vehicle is parked during maintenance and no protective coating is in place leading to rust, then impurities will end up inside the product again when the vehicle is driven
Then, it’s sufficient to apply a layer of anti-corrosion material on the inner surface of the carbon steel! For example, those lined with PTFE, or PO/PP, etc.; of course, many of them will be required at the corresponding price
