Two Atlas oil-free screw compressors are used in a standby configuration; once the oil-free compressor has been started up and calibrated, it is shut down, and the outlet check valve as well as the inlet control valve are closed. The remaining compressed air is in the compressor chamber. Compressed air may contain condensed water (the air in chemical industrial parks contains acidic substances such as SO2); the coating on the rotor can be damaged over time due to exposure to acidic environments, which leads to an increase in the gap between the rotor components, or corrosion may occur as a result of the damage to the coating. After the oil-free machine was tuned up, the technicians suggested that, in order to protect the backup machine, it should be turned on for 15 minutes every day; of course, the operator refused to accept such a frequency of startup. Question: Could an experienced technician give some advice? 1. Is it necessary to take residual acidic condensate into consideration? ; 2. Is it necessary to start the standby rotor so frequently in order to protect it? 3. What options do you have for drying the compression chamber when selecting a model? Thank you

What was said upstairs is correct – Atlas’ oil-free screw compressors now come equipped with a shutdown drying function, using air from a cold dryer to carry out the drying process. Was your equipment purchased earlier and doesn’t come with a duct for drying? Ask their service staff to see if it can be added.
