The compressor I have is driven by a turbine, which uses 3.5 bar of steam. In recent days, the auxiliary lubrication oil pump has started operating on its own; I’m not sure what triggered this automatic start-up. Once it started, an alarm regarding the pressure of the oil used for turbine regulation was triggered. The alarm did not go away even after stopping the auxiliary oil pump. What factors can cause the auxiliary oil pump to start? Thank you
First, should the oil pressure be adjusted for high-level alarm or low-level alarm? Secondly, if you want to know the conditions for starting the auxiliary oil pump, you can check the alarm interlock logic diagram of the instrument control system. Generally, the auxiliary oil pump is started when the oil pressure behind the filter is too low. If the pressure of your regulating oil is too low, the auxiliary oil pump will naturally start up; even if you turn off the auxiliary oil pump, it will still operate. If your control oil pressure is too high, it is caused by the activation of the auxiliary oil pump. It could be a problem with either the oil pressure feedback system downstream of the filter or the oil pressure feedback related to the control oil, or there might be an issue with the oil pipes. The most important reason is that if problems arise in the future, they need to be described in detail; otherwise, how can we guess?
Based on the poster’s description, my personal advice is to contact the instrumentation team to have the interlocks checked thoroughly.
