There are only two Class A storage tanks with a capacity of 100 cubic meters each, as the space is indeed too limited. If arranged according to Table 4.2.2 of the building codes, it’s not possible to fit them in. Is it possible to follow Table 4.2.3 and treat these two tanks as one tank group? There is only one tank area within a fire dike; if the tank capacities all meet the requirements specified in Table 4.2.3 of the building codes, can the fire separation distance between tanks be determined as that for one group of tanks? I have a vague feeling that it’s not possible; it seems that only when there is actual grouping within one tank area can one follow Table 4.2.3, which means there should be at least two groups, right?
Generally, internal floating roof tanks should be used for Class A storage tanks; this way, only 0.4D is required. What would be the diameter of a 100-cubic-meter tank? Even at 0.75D, it’s not many meters; using 4.2.2 or 4.2.3 should give a similar result.
I would like to ask my fellow practitioner: where does it state that internal floating roof storage tanks should be used for Class A product storage tanks? Please give me some advice!
Code for Fire Protection Design of Petrochemical Enterprises, 6.2.2: For storing liquids of Class A B and Class A, floating roof tanks or internal floating roof tanks with metal float chambers should be used. For materials with special requirements, other types of storage tanks can be used.
