I’ve been working with phenolic resin for some time now; it involves simple processes, with the coils inside the reactor being used to raise and lower the temperature. The most important thing is to prevent polymerization explosively, and it’s not possible to disclose the specific process parameters.
Process drawings and operating parameters for phenolic resin production
One of the processes we are currently using is batch production, with a reaction time of approximately 16–17 hours per batch. Phenol is pumped into the reactor, and stirring is initiated. Polyformaldehyde is placed in a dissolution tank and dissolved using process water to prepare a 37% formaldehyde solution, which is then added to the reaction vessel; the valves are closed and heating begins. Catalyst: oxalic acid, used for the polycondensation reaction.
