I feel that there aren’t enough employees available for this work, so I want to keep track of the hours spent on these inspections. I would like to ask those of you with experience in calibration: 1. How long does it take, on average, to calibrate a pressure gauge or pressure transmitter (following the **standard calibration procedures, with handwritten reports required; on-site disassembly and assembly are not included)? 2. How long does it take, on average, to calibrate a bimetallic thermometer or an integrated thermistor (following the **standard calibration procedures, with handwritten reports required; on-site disassembly and assembly are not included)?

There is no mandatory requirement for this; the calibration standards vary from place to place, so the operating procedures also differ. 1. Generally speaking, when it comes to calibrating pressure gauges, our company is able to calibrate over 100 gauges per day per calibration station. The calibration speed for diaphragm pressure gauges differs from that of ordinary threaded pressure gauges, and there are no fixed standards for this. The calibration stations in our company use Conest hydraulic systems; they are used for measuring ordinary pressure gauges. On average, an experienced worker can calibrate one gauge in about 2 minutes ; For diaphragm pressure gauges, on average it’s about 4 minutes per gauge. There are no strict standards. A pressure transducer simply has an additional component for connecting to a power source and for setting the 475 value. But sometimes it’s also quite slow, depending on the operator’s mood. 2. As for the calibration of thermometers and thermal resistors, our company has a heat transfer oil heater; for calibration, it takes about 3 to 4 hours per thermometer. If there were some kind of incubator or specialized calibration chamber, it would definitely be faster... Temperature changes are measured using a resistance chamber, and it’s done very quickly!
For ordinary companies, verification reports are usually fake; basically, either mandatory testing is carried out or no testing at all. If testing is indeed done, it takes a long time for the thermistor to complete the process. The pressure gauge is fine; if it were the case, as mentioned above, that one person had to calibrate it 100+ times a day, then the calibration staff would surely run away.

One can conduct self-calibration; metrology personnel need to obtain the relevant certificates. Every year, the metrology institutes hold various training and examination courses, and certificates are issued upon passing the exams.

The report doesn’t need to be complicated either; there’s a pre-made calibration form, and all that’s needed is to fill in the calibration data. Generally, five points are calibrated: 0, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, along with parameters such as error and hysteresis, which are recorded as the calibration proceeds. The calibration of thermometers takes longer, as it takes time for the water bath (used at lower temperatures) or oil bath (used in high-temperature environments) to reach the desired temperature. But once the temperature reaches the required level, it’s possible to calibrate a dozen or so thermometers in a day. If you want to have staff available for calibration, you shouldn’t focus on working hours; instead, ensure that there is one or two personnel for each type of calibration task, or at least one person with certificates for two or more types of calibrations. Additionally, when asking the people on site to bring in instruments for calibration, have them schedule their appointments at different times (you can also set specific calibration intervals so that the times are staggered). This way, no matter how many instruments need to be calibrated, your staff will still be able to keep up.
