I was reading a report recently that contained two sentences: In 1984, a 130MW gasification unit was built at the Black Water Pump in Germany (it used 720–750 t/d of lignite, with a design pressure of 3.0 MPa and an operating pressure of 2.5 MPa; the gas production rate was 50,000 Nm3/h, the inner diameter of the gasification furnace was 1.9 m, and the inner diameter of the pressure vessel’s shell was 2.4 m). Currently, seven gasification units with a capacity of 500 MW based on the advanced GSP gasification technology are available in China. What does MW mean here? Isn’t MW a way of indicating the size of a power plant unit?
MW stands for megawatts, right? 1MW = 1000KW
But how can a vaporization unit be expressed in megawatts? It’s not for generating electricity.
I’m not very familiar with gasification units – does that mean the power value derived from the unit’s energy consumption is indeed that much? These days, people use equivalent standard coal to calculate the energy consumption of such units
It refers to the capacity of the transformer that comes with the furnace; I know that calcium carbide furnaces are also called by this name

It means megawatt. Since their gasification furnaces are mainly used for power generation, there is a corresponding relationship. In our country, it is common to use the coal consumption amount as a measure, while Germans prefer to use MW. The exact notation is MWth (megawatt class). Roughly speaking, this translates to 200MW – 750 t/d, 300MW – 1200 t/d, 400MW – 1500 t/d, 600MW – 2000 t/d, and 800MW – 3000 t/d
