Are there any requirements regarding the installation direction of the thermocouple in relation to the direction of the flowing medium? What are the differences between going against the flow and going with it? Thank you
There are clear requirements in the automatic control installation manual; please refer to it. The purpose is to place the sensor measurement point at the optimal position within the fluid.
Slant-mounted counterflow, but now vertical installations are more common.
If you really insist on pretending to do it that way, it’s certainly possible, but national standards specify the proper method of installation – so why not follow those standards?……
**The standard is that it can be installed in reverse flow easily, but this is not mandatory. Of course, you can also install it in the direction of the flow, but the measurement errors may be larger.
The requirement is for reverse or vertical installation; installing the thermocouple in the flow direction does not allow it to make good contact with the medium being measured, which can have an impact on the readings...
The new unit was originally installed in a counter-current configuration; however, during the three inspections and four regular checks in the workshop, it was noted that this configuration, with solid particles present, can lead to blockages due to short circuits, so it was recommended to switch to a vertical installation.
The standard recommendation is counterflow, but vertical installation is more common in practice.
