What is the importance of converting a water ring vacuum pump to a double-end face mechanical seal?

Our company has two water ring vacuum pumps. The original mechanical seals used were single-face mechanical seals, and the gas emitted from the pumps was released into the atmosphere. Now, we need to control VOC emissions; therefore, we plan to modify the existing outlet pipelines so that they connect to the company’s flare system. However, we are concerned that a leak in the single-face seal could allow oxygen to enter the flare system, posing a potential threat to it. That’s why we need to replace the single-face seals with double-face seals. I personally don’t think it’s necessary to make this change – what do you all think? Please share your suggestions； (Additionally: The pump’s shaft diameter is 135 mm, the working fluid is water, and plan to choose option 53A.)
This is necessary. If it enters the flare system, it can cause deflagration. If the machine seal manufacturer has not been selected yet, I can provide one.
If it is oxygen, a double-end face seal is still necessary, as the risk is very high. In the chemical industry, safety comes first.
The liquid ring pumps in use today all come with dual seals, and if venting to a flare is dangerous, either 21+53A or 21+54 will work; personally, I think the latter is better.
It’s quite necessary, right? There’s reason to be worried……
