With increasingly stringent gasoline standards today, lower levels of nitrogen, sulfur, olefins, and benzene are required in fuel products. Most processes for removing sulfur, nitrogen, and olefins involve hydrogenation, but this process leads to a loss in octane rating. The alkylation process can produce high-octane gasoline components, namely alkylated oils. Since its main component is isooctane, it not only has a high octane rating and low sensitivity, but also possesses ideal volatility and a clean burning characteristic, making it an excellent component for blending into aviation gasoline and automotive gasoline. Currently, due to the accelerated phasing out of lead in automotive gasoline, the alkylation process has seen significant development.
Many refineries are building new alkylation units
Our plant has a capacity of 160,000 tons per year and uses the DuPont sulfuric acid process; it was shut down at the end of last year and has not been operational since then!
The total alkylation capacity in the country is 2.58 million tons. Among them, CNPC, Sinopec, and CNOOC together have a production capacity of 780,000 tons, with all of these projects coming online before 2010. At present, the domestic market is basically in supply-demand balance.
