Will the biochemical effluent cause the river water to turn dark? What chemicals can be used to alleviate this situation? Is sodium hypochlorite useful?
Ozone decolorization can be considered, but the cost is high!
Is your wastewater discharged directly into the river? What are the discharge standards? Exceeding the standards will surely lead to problems; for river water, even the Class A standard for wastewater still falls under the category of the worst quality among surface waters. If the waterway is flowing, adding chemicals is ineffective; it’s only used for inspection purposes, with a temporary addition that yields little effect. The color of the water in the waterway is closely related to the bottom sediment – if the sediment is black, the water will appear dark regardless of its clarity.
The darkening of river water is mostly caused by low dissolved oxygen levels in it; high concentrations of organic matter or high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus can accelerate the shortage of oxygen in the river water.
Without considering the COD issue, sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide can be used, or a decolorizing agent can be added; it is best to carry out aeration or introduce ozone.
