The situation is as follows: The client currently has two circular pipes, both 1-inch in diameter; one is used for temperatures of -20 degrees, and the other for temperatures of -200 degrees; It is required that these two pipelines be insulated to prevent condensation; the climate conditions should be based on those in Guangzhou ; I have never done insulation work at such low temperatures, so I came to the forum for help ; What material is best for insulation? What thickness is required for the insulation material? ? Urgent! Urgent! Urgent! ! ! I downloaded a calculation formula from the Internet; according to its results, if rubber and plastic insulation is used, the required thickness is 35.5 mm, while if polyurethane foam is used, the required thickness is 22.5 mm. These are the values obtained through the calculations. I’m not sure if they are correct ? If foam glass is used, the thickness will be even greater than that of rubber and plastic materials.
-What material is at 200 degrees? Liquid nitrogen is only at -196 degrees
The recommended operating temperature for polyurethane is -65°C; the minimum operating temperature is -80°C. It cannot be used at -200°C, in which case foam glass should be used instead. The heat insulation calculation should be carried out in accordance with GB50264-2013 or SH/T3010-2013; however, relying solely on the calculated thickness is often insufficient, as this can lead to frosting, so it is appropriate to include an additional margin.
-A vacuum insulated tube is needed for 200 degrees. . . Using insulation materials alone is no longer sufficient to solve the problem. . .
For insulation, polyurethane foam could be considered
No matter what material you use for insulation, waterproofing is key. The climate in Guangzhou is humid; if waterproofing isn’t done properly, then insulation won’t help at all. You can refer to the standards mentioned above regarding the thickness of the insulation layer. That’s right. Additionally, it is recommended to use vacuum-insulated tubes for transporting cryogenic fluids, so you won’t have to worry about insulation issues
A solution has not been found yet; we have never worked at such low temperatures.

Calculated in accordance with the dew prevention method specified in standard GB50264-2013, for the location of Guangzhou, with an ambient temperature of 34.2°C, humidity of 80%, and dew point temperature of 29.6°C, when using the Italian K-FLEX Flexo rubber-plastic material, the insulation thickness required is 90 mm when the medium temperature is -196°C, and 40 mm when the medium temperature is -20°C. There must be something wrong with your calculation software; there’s no need to worry about the humidity in Guangzhou. The thickness calculated takes into account a certain margin of safety. The K-FLEX rubber-plastic material from Italy is used for insulation purposes in LNG refueling stations in cities such as Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Fangchenggang, and Xiamen.
