Dear teachers, we are using centrifugal pumps, and we plan to install throttle orifice plates at the pump outlet. Will doing this be bad for the pump? Why?
After doing the calculations, it’s fine to install a flow-limiting orifice plate at the rated flow rate to prevent the pump from operating under overload. I don’t see any problem with that. The minimum continuous operating load of a pump is generally not allowed to be lower than 30% of its rated flow rate.
As long as it’s not below the minimum flow rate, that’s fine.

I’m not quite sure. Generally, before starting a centrifugal pump, the outlet valve needs to be opened slightly first, and then the pump is started with the outlet valve in that position. If a flow-limiting orifice plate is used, it’s only meant to prevent the pump from operating under overload conditions; it doesn’t seem to serve any real purpose. I’m not clear about this, and it would be helpful to see the exact location of such components
What is the purpose of throttling? ~~If the goal is to save energy, consider what the return on investment for frequency upconversion would be~
If a flow-limiting orifice plate is added merely to prevent the pump from operating under overload conditions, then it would be better to use a power monitor instead. . . If it’s too high, jump; if it’s too low, trigger an alarm. That’s fine. .
