After precise desulfurization of methanol produced from coke oven gas, there is no sulfur present; however, the gas after conversion contains trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide. Why? I’m seeking help from all the seniors
What does it mean to have no sulfur after desulfurization? What about the accuracy and precision of the analyzer?
The claim of no sulfur after desulfurization means that the total sulfur content is 0; the analysis instruments are in good condition and have all been calibrated
Possible reasons: 1. Sulfur deposition in the converter lining. 2. Internal leakage in the coke oven gas preheater. 3. Saturated sulfur release of zinc oxide at room temperature
A major reason is that after precise desulfurization, organic sulfur remains, but the testing methods are designed to detect inorganic sulfur; during the conversion process, organic sulfur turns into inorganic sulfur, and then tests using inorganic sulfur detection methods are carried out, which is why hydrogen sulfide is detected again. Firstly, the conversion reaction is essentially a hydrogen-enriched partial oxidation conversion reaction; it is entirely possible for H2S to be present at the outlet. The reasons for this could be as follows: 1. The organic sulfur content in coke oven gas exceeds the specified limit; 2. The hydrogenation temperature for precision desulfurization of cobalt-molybdenum is too low ; 3. The medium-temperature zinc oxide has reached saturation in terms of adsorption, and reverse sulfurization may occur. 4. Check whether there is a risk of channeling in each desulfurization tank, as well as whether the gas distributor is damaged (this can be determined by measuring the total resistance to precise desulfurization). 5. Check whether there is any possibility of leakage in the preheater for the gas used in the conversion process; undesulfurized gas might mix with the gas undergoing conversion (by testing the sulfur content before and after passing through the preheater)
