Our company plans to build a new pipeline for the automated control of oil distribution (edible oil, density 0.92, flow rate 150 T/H). The pipeline will be made of 304 stainless steel, with diameters of DN100 and DN150, respectively, at the outlet of the storage tank as well as at the inlet and outlet of the pump. We are unsure which type of valve would be suitable for long-term use. I would appreciate some advice from the experts, thank you!
I personally think it’s more or less the same. However, in extremely low temperatures, care must be taken to insulate pneumatic valves, as they may fail to open.
What are the pressure and temperature? The medium is edible oil; a sanitary-grade quick-install ball valve or quick-install butterfly valve can be used, depending on the setup at the site. If it is convenient to install a gas storage tank, pneumatic control is preferred, as it offers fast startup and shutdown times, a longer service life, and simple maintenance ; Or for electric valves, each has its advantages and disadvantages.
Pneumatic valves have a short switching time; there’s not much difference between pneumatic and electric versions. Electric valves are recommended as they are easier to connect to electricity supply, while pneumatic valves require a air pump as well

Pneumatic systems have a low failure rate, fast switching times, and are easy to troubleshoot. The downside is that it’s necessary to have an air supply available near the valve in question; if such a supply exists, things are simpler, but if not, it becomes more troublesome. Electric versions have a high failure rate, slow switching times, and it’s difficult to diagnose problems. The advantage is that they can be connected directly to the power supply (220V); it’s up to you to decide which type is best.
If there is a gas supply available at the site, it is recommended to use pneumatic valves, as they offer much higher stability and also have a much shorter switching time.
