How to determine if a liquid chlorine liquefier is leaking, and how to identify which one is leaking if there is a leak.
By using ammonia spray, it can be roughly determined where the fog is thickest.
What is the manufacturer’s process? Different equipment is used for low temperature and low pressure conditions, as well as for high temperature and high pressure conditions; the processes are also different. How should this be answered?
Do you mean external leakage or internal leakage when you talk about leakage? For external leaks, ammonia water is used; for internal leaks, it depends on your process.
External leakage is obvious; if there is internal leakage, the refrigerant should enter the chlorine system. Although this method has not been used before, it is worth considering whether it is possible to detect the amount of Freon in the system. Moreover, if internal leakage is significant, it will show up in the need to replenish the refrigerant. Offline testing of the equipment can also be conducted (due to pressure differences, the possibility of chlorine entering the refrigeration system can be disregarded; this is for reference regarding our company’s chlorine liquefaction units).
Internal leakage, medium temperature and pressure: the pressure is 0.4–0.9 MPa and the temperature is 7–9 degrees Celsius for cold water.
Since it is an internal leak, it is easy to determine; by measuring the pH value of the return water and smelling its odor, an internal leak can be identified. ------The chlorine pressure is higher than that of water at 5°C.
If there is an internal leak, chlorine will enter the water system, and basically the cold water main will become acidic; it’s not possible to determine which unit is the problem by checking the pH value.
Installing an online pH meter on each liquefied gas cooling water return pipe solves the problem.
