When I grow flowers, especially orchids, I use foam – namely foam boards and the like – which is crushed and mixed with soil, vermiculite, pine bark, peanut shells, and pine needles. Adjust the pH level twice a year using ferrous sulfate, and apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution as a spray multiple times.
