Recently, the first two stages of Claus catalysts were replaced with domestic ones. Yet after restarting operations, the emissions turned out to be more than twice as high as before – currently, the sulfur dioxide levels in the exhaust gases are 2000 ppm, which is extremely high. What should we do? What exactly is the problem? Previously, we used catalysts from Shell in the Netherlands; those have been in use for almost five years. Last year, we also replaced the Superior and SuperKlaus catalysts with domestic ones, but that didn’t have any effect. Now, things are even worse after the replacement. Today, when samples were taken, the hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide levels after oxidation were around four to five thousand ppm. It seems like the latter two stages of the catalytic system aren’t serving any purpose at all. Could anyone with expertise help analyze this situation?
Are there any samples of the catalyst that has been removed and of the newly installed catalyst? Our company has a system that seems to be able to determine what problems have occurred in the upstream system based on the catalyst.
Such a situation should not occur; we previously used Maersk’s products as well, and no such problems arose after replacing some of them with CT series products developed by the Natural Gas Research Institute of Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company. It is recommended that you conduct component analysis of the process gases at various levels and compare them. Check if the problem lies in these two levels
It shouldn’t differ that much; the reactor converts about 75% of the hydrogen sulfide, and that’s the main part!
Has the loading capacity changed? Is it more than before?
