Most of the mass flow meters used in our factory are Emerson 1700 models. A few days ago, one of these flow meters started to show fluctuations in flow rate, with values going both below and above zero. What could be the cause of this? What are the reasons?
The poster failed to provide information on the operational conditions before the flow meter malfunctioned, making an accurate analysis impossible. Based on the manufacturer’s information and past experience: 1. Is it because the flow meter was reactivated following pipeline maintenance, and is there any gas in the pipeline that could affect the measurement values? 2. Is water or moisture present in the flow meter sensor junction box, affecting changes in the coil resistance? 3. Has the back pressure of the medium in the pipeline downstream of the flow meter changed, resulting in vaporization or cavitation? 4. Are there any deformation stresses in the flanges of the pipes before and after the flow meter? Issues such as additional stress on the scaffold due to being suspended in the air? 5. Are there drastic changes in the construction environment temperature? 6. Does the operation require a significant increase in the pressure of the medium being measured? 7. Is the power supply for the flow meter unstable, with large fluctuations? 8. Have any high-power electromagnetic interference sources such as transformers, generators, or frequency converters appeared around the flow meter?
Check whether it is due to the operating conditions of the process – insufficient medium in the pipe, resulting in lumped flow
Vibration, unstable power supply, blockage at the U-turn, etc
What is the normal traffic level on weekdays? Is it just slightly above zero, or within the normal measurement range of the flow meter?
