In the wax oil hydrogenation interlock logic, when the cycle hydrogen compressor stops, the emergency pressure relief system is activated; conversely, when the emergency pressure relief system is activated, does the cycle hydrogen compressor stop or not?
It depends; if an emergency pressure relief is triggered due to an accident, the cycle hydrogen compressor will stop; If the emergency pressure relief is activated accidentally, there is no need to shut down the cycle hydrogen compressor; simply restore normal operation as soon as possible.
It depends on how the interlocks are set based on the process parameters: some systems shut down at high pressure levels for pressure relief, while they don’t stop at low pressure levels; others shut down completely!
The general interlock design should be such that in fixed-bed hydrogenation, the recycle hydrogen compressor must not stop when an emergency pressure relief is initiated; And the hydrogen circulation machine must be depressurized urgently. When interlocking is not in use, the procedure described on the first floor can be followed. (Note: Does not include hydrogenation in fluidized bed, suspended bed, or moving bed reactors)
Generally, emergency pressure relief occurs when the temperature exceeds the limit; thus, the system does not need to be shut down, and cooling through circulation can continue.
Emergency pressure relief is activated, and the compressor does not stop running. This is because recycled hydrogen is used to remove heat from the reactor and protect the catalyst.
