At our facility, the outlet of the compressor water pump in the diesel hydrogenation unit is equipped with a wafer-type check valve; its principle differs from that of ordinary check valves
A wafer check valve is also known as a backflow valve, non-return valve, backpressure valve, or one-way valve. These types of valves open and close automatically due to the force generated by the flow of the medium itself within the pipeline; they are a type of automatic valve. The function of this type of valve is to allow the medium to flow in only one direction and prevent flow in the opposite direction. Usually, this type of valve operates automatically. It is installed between a set of flanges. Ordinary check valves come with flanges.
Clamped safety valves are generally lift-type and equipped with springs.
Clamped type, single disc valve – simple and durable structure
If this type of valve is used in reciprocating compressors, it will produce intermittent operating noises; it’s not clear whether this constitutes a potential problem. I’ve seen them in use, and the noise is quite loud, so they were replaced during major repairs.
