The pH of the wastewater from the Lindlar low-temperature methanol wash alcohol-water separation tower is low

Hello everyone. Our facility uses the Linde low-temperature methanol washing process. Every time we transfer the methanol-water solution from the underground tanks to the alcohol-water separation tower, the pH of the wastewater drops to 3–4. Could someone explain why this happens?
