Recently, two standards related to chemical safety, namely GB/T 32374-2015 \"Phrases and Codes for Hazardous Information of Chemicals\" and GB/T 32375-2015 \"Safety Technical Regulations for Calcium Carbide Production\", were approved and issued by the Standardization Management Committee. The competent authority for both standards is the **General Administration of Work Safety; they are under the oversight of the Chemical Safety Sub-Technical Committee of the National Technical Committee for Work Safety Standardization, and will come into effect officially on January 1, 2017. GB/T 32374-2015 \"Phrases and Codes for Hazardous Information of Chemicals\" mainly standardizes pictograms and codes, hazard statement phrases and codes, and precautionary statement phrases and codes. The pictograms and codes are taken from the EU CLP Regulation, while the hazard statement phrases and codes, as well as the precautionary statement phrases and codes, are identical to those in GHS. The pictogram code consists of three English letters and two Arabic numerals. The first three digits are represented by the letters “GHS”, while the last two digits are represented sequentially by the numbers 01 to 09. The hazard description code consists of a letter and three Arabic numerals. The first digit is used with the letter “H” to indicate the hazard description; the second digit uses 2, 3, or 4 to represent physical hazards, health hazards, and environmental hazards respectively, while the last two digits indicate the hazards related to the inherent properties of the substance or mixture. For example, explosiveness (codes H200-H210), flammability (codes H220-H230). The precaution code consists of one English letter and three Arabic digits. The first digit is represented by the letter “P” to indicate the precautionary instructions; the second digit uses the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to denote general measure precautions, preventive measure precautions, accident response precautions, safe storage precautions, and waste disposal precautions respectively; the last two digits represent the sequence number corresponding to those precautionary instructions. For example, obtain the special instructions before use (code: P201). GB/T 32374-2015 \"Phrases and Codes for Hazard Information of Chemicals\" serves as an important supplement to GB/T 16483-2008 \"Content and Order of Items in Safety Data Sheets for Chemicals\" and GB 15258-2009 \"Regulations on the Preparation of Safety Labels for Chemicals\" with regard to hazard descriptions and preventive measures; it is also an important standard for regulating AQ3047-2013 \"Specifications for Safety Warning Signs in Chemical Handling Areas\". GB/T 32375-2015 \"Safety Technical Regulations for Calcium Carbide Production\" specifies the safety technical requirements for raw materials, the safety technical indicators for process control, the safety technical regulations for various positions involved in calcium carbide production, the safety regulations regarding labor protection and the working environment, as well as other safety precautions. This standard provides technical support for safe production in the calcium carbide industry, and helps to promote the adoption of safety technologies in this sector.
