The media are steam at 0.6 MPa and cold water at 0.6 MPa, with a switch every 4 hours. J41H-16C globe valves are used; however, these valves start to fail to close properly after a short time, and there is also leakage at the packing seal around the valve stem. What kind of valve would be a better choice to solve this problem, or are there any other effective solutions?

In most cases, a normal stop valve is sufficient to meet the requirements. If the sealing isn’t proper, check whether it’s due to solid impurities such as welding slag accumulating on the sealing surface after the valve was installed but before it was thoroughly cleaned, which affects the sealing effect. This valve is fully capable of meeting the operational requirements; the issue lies in the quality of the valve. It does not close properly because this globe valve uses a flat-seal design. Either the parallelism of the sealing surfaces is inadequate or their roughness is not sufficient, or there are impurities in the fluid that damage the sealing surfaces, resulting in leaks at the packing area. Additionally, the quality of the packing may be poor, the machining precision of the packing gland may be insufficient, or the packing gland may not be tightened properly.
