【Q&A Question 054】June 13, 2016: How to prevent freezing and condensation in standby pumps during winter? Pumps that contain water can have additional heating provided; the pump body can also be covered with fire-resistant fabric and then heated using steam. Alternatively, the check valve at the pump’s outlet can be removed or holes can be made in it to allow the fluid to flow continuously. For pumps that are not in use, antifreeze can be added, and measures such as rotating the pump can be taken
Generally, there is a small bypass line from in front of the pump outlet check valve to behind the pump outlet valve; this is known as a pre-warming line or anti-freezing line. In winter, this line needs to be slightly opened to maintain flow of the fluid inside the pump.
