Dear experts, I’m not very familiar with various manufacturing processes. I suddenly thought of a question today and would like to ask you: How is sludge typically discharged in wastewater treatment? For example, in an anaerobic tank, sludge is not removed; instead, the liquid from the middle and upper layers is discharged. Since the anaerobic tank contains a mixed solution, isn’t it easy to remove a large portion of the microorganisms in this way? Similarly, the aerobic tank generates a large amount of flocs, and many microorganisms are discharged along with the effluent; at the same time, some products settle or bacteria die. Is it sufficient to simply add chemicals in such cases? What should be done with the sludge that settles? If a sludge scraper is used, won’t the microorganisms decrease significantly all at once? In the secondary sedimentation tank, is the recirculation done after sedimentation, or is it the liquid from the aerobic tank that is recirculated? Anaerobic microorganisms reproduce slowly; as a result, little excess sludge is produced. The liquid from the upper layer of the anaerobic tank overflows into the secondary sedimentation tank, and the sludge from there is then returned to the anaerobic tank. Still, a small amount of sludge does overflow from the secondary sedimentation tank. I’m not sure what your aerobic process is – in some cases, the mixed liquid from the exit of the aerobic tank is recycled back; in other cases, it’s mainly recycled to the anoxic tanks at the front end for denitrification. Sludge from the secondary sedimentation tank may also be sent back to the aerobic tank, or to the anaerobic tanks at the front end for phosphorus removal. Additionally, some of the sludge is discharged as excess sludge to the sludge treatment system
